Today's mission was to see the Glacier grey. At first I thought that the name is given because if its color, but in reality the glacier is very turquoise, not grey. So maybe then the names goes after its discoverer?
I would split this walk in 3 parts, which are characterised by the level of effort needed to accomplish that. The first part is medium difficulty, because the start is uphill, not very steep one but nevertheless. It ends at the mirador, where you can have a distant view at the glacier. This is the point where for most of the people the trek ends. But we decided to see if you can get closer to the glacier. We hadn't really checked out the map of trek, so we were not sure. But what the hack. We felt pretty good, so were sure we can do that.
This is the second stage of the trek starts, and as it turned out, it was a difficult one because the path was going downhill cliffs, steep ones. while climbing down we were terrified of climbing it again next time, but up. This is a tricky part and some how seemed to be more difficult than the French valley.
The third part was an easy walk till the refugio, where we sat at a porch and had something to eat. Because we were tired after the steep downhill climb, we decided not to go and "check" if there is another viewpoint of glacier but turn back instead and face the uphill climb. Later at the refugio Paine Grande we will discover that just a bit further was another mirador. This is what I call an epic fail. I don't even know why we didn't ask anyone at the lodge Grey about the mirador.
