Riga in January 2014 is so Grey

I don't recall any other year when Christmas, New Years and beginning of January have been so grey; with no snow.

The Different Desert - ATACAMA

I've always perceived the desert as a huge quantities of sand. This was so untrue for the Atacama desert. It is very diverse, amazing. Unfortunately not all places can be explored in detail (meaning not everywhere you are allowed to walk). Torres del Paine (I): getting to Torres del Paine

Day 1: Punta Arenas to Torres del Paine The long waited trip to the 8th world natural wonder national park of Torres del Paine begun early in the morning of 10-nov-2013, when we got on the bus from Punta Arenas to Puerto Natales (248 km, 3.5 hrs). We took J Buses, as apparently they were the partners for our Hospedaje Magenllanes managers. The landscape along the way was amazing, in the sense different from Latvian - trees that look like they've been stretched to one side herd of sheep, cows, nandus (that's my guess what the big birds were) sheep But most impressive was the wind which was making the bus to swing from one side to the other, back and forth. The thought of the wind as the everyday situation let me stay calm; the drivers knew how to handle this obviously. Arriving in Puerto Natales gave us hope to be able to eat something as we got really hungry. Since we had 2.5hrs till bus to the park, we decided to walk around the town ...

Torres del Paine (III): Lago Nordenskjold

Today's route from el Chileno to Los Cuernos . Distance: 13km Time incl.resting 7hrs, without rest 4:48 hrs. Average heart rate 117bpm, Max 167bmp. This was rather easy and warm day, without any big surprises. Except, we actually thought we'd be walking more, as we did not know there was a shortcut. We saw a shortcut sign, and decided to follow. I definitely advice to do that. The views I guess are nicer than the ones you get if walking on the trail through flats (which I have been told by people who took that road). The trek was taking along a big blue lake Lago Nordenskjold. The route was basically going downhill most of the time, thus this could be treated as a resting day and day to take loads of pictures. If you get lucky you can try to take a photo (and have max zoom in) of condor, who is a bird with one of the largest wingspans up to 3.2 m.
